NQ Solar Saving Lives - 10th January 2012

Did you know you could save up to three lives with one simple act? Just, by taking no more than an hour out of your day you can make a huge impact in someone else’s life. With the holidays and heat, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) is low on blood donation levels and need your help.

In order to help, the team at NQ Solar is stepping up to donate blood this Saturday, January 14.  Many of the team members haven’t given blood before while others go regularly.

“When NQ Solar heard that blood donation levels were low we wanted to do something to help. For three of our staff it is their first time donating,” said Stacey Dobis from NQ Solar.

If you are interested in giving blood the process is easy. The entire appointment takes about an hour and includes filling out a questionnaire, giving blood (about ten minutes), having a snack, a drink and a rest.

Furthermore, donating blood is a very safe process. Each donor’s blood is collected through the use of a new, sterile needle, which is used once and then discarded.

Within 24-48 hours of donating blood, your blood volume is completely replenished.  Blood is a vital part of life and for many people blood donors are their lifelines. Currently according to the ARCBS, only one in 30 people give blood, but one in three people will need blood in their lifetime.

Before giving blood, make sure to have plenty of liquid the day before. Three hours before donating drink at least three big glasses of water/juice. Have a meal before you arrive to the donation centre and bring ID.

Please join NQ Solar to help our community get the resources they need. If you have any questions about blood donation visit, www.donateblood.com.au or call the ARCBS at 13 14 95.
